Meet LSC's Animals: Black Spot Piranhas

It’s feeding time for our Black Spot Piranhas! In our new video, watch as the piranhas receive a tilapia filet which only took about 12 seconds for them to finish!

Check it out:

Found in the Orinoco River Basin in South America, the Black Spot Piranha is known for its strong jaws and razor sharp, serrated teeth that allow it to easily slice their prey and plants.

The flesh-hungry reputation of piranhas comes from the account of Teddy Roosevelt, where he described their ability to tear apart a whole cow. In reality, these fish only act in such a frenzy if they are starved and defensive.
