Guess who’s back! After a few false starts, Liberty Science Center finally threw the long-awaited 21+ event, LSC After Dark: Y2K, on Feb. 17, 2022.
On this night, we traveled back to the first decade of the millennium with music, dancing, food, exhibits, special activities, and more.
Here are just a few of our favorite parts from the event:
Looking good! Right upon entering the building, guests got their pictures taken at the Photo Booth (many of whom showed off their amazing Y2K outfits!).
We took it back to the early ‘00s with temporary tattoos for guests, featuring butterflies, flowers, barbed wire, and more!
All night, guests enjoyed special drinks like the Hit Me Bourbon One More Time, Timberlake Daiquiri, 98 Degrees on the Beach, and Britney’s Fizzy Pop, plus beer, wine, mocktails, and more.
We had two new shows in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the biggest planetarium in America!
Luckily Y2K didn’t kill us, but at the Stellar Disasters planetarium show, guests learned all about plenty of other disasters in space. Then in the Laser Y2K laser show, guests rocked out to hits from their old iPod Shuffle set to stunning high-tech lasers.
Midnight Market returned with delicious food from local vendors. This month’s vendors were Tradewinds II, Hold My Knots, Eemas Cuisine, El Lechon De Negron, Dilena’s Dolcini, Moo La La, Empanada Papa, and La Coqueta.
It wasn’t just a Y2K party, but also a Valentine’s Day party!
And as has become the tradition at our LSC After Dark V-Day events, LSC team member Dorothy – who has a background in sex education – was there to teach safe sex. Throughout the night, guests had a blast with special activities like seeing who could blow up condoms the fastest.
At this month’s Innovation Station, we were joined by our friends from the Center for Biological Diversity who handed out free endangered species condoms (because human population growth and overconsumption lead to species extinction, habitat loss, and climate change).
There’s so much technology from the Y2K era that already feels ancient! At the party, guests were invited to revisit and experiment with old tech, and consider what current devices might feel antiquated in just a few years.
At LSC After Dark: Y2K, we were joined by the New Jersey-based company Larkspur Botanicals, who specialize in creative production and event styling with elevated florals and installations. They brought along beautiful photo ops that guests took pictures with throughout the night!
DJ UFOso kept the vibe nostalgic – and lively! – with songs from the early ‘00s all night on the dance floor.
We ended the night with a big burst of confetti on the dance floor. Because, why not?
